One out of six men jailed for rape is Afro-Caribbean
artdoc June=1991

Although Afro-Caribbeans total 2.3% of the entire British
population, a new government report states that approximately
16% of the men jailed for rape are of Afro-Caribbean origin.
White rapists amount to 76%, Indians, Pakistanis, and
Bangladeshis 6%, and other ethnic groups 3%. According to one
of its authors, the report titled, The Imprisoned Rapist and
Rape, includes the ethnic origin of jailed offenders because,
`We need the information to get the full picture ethnic
background, unemployment, drugs, and drinking - to try and
tease out why this crime is committed.' (Daily Mail 5.3.91)
Meanwhile, police annual crime statistics reveal that in
1990 the force recorded 980 rapes, but listed a further 600
allegations as `no crime'. This means that 38% of reported
rapes are not considered as a crime. Commander Richard Monk
said that: `These figures have prompted us to carry out further
analyses into the reasons why allegations are not recorded as a
crime. It could mean a change in the way we are classifying or
dealing with rape allegations' (Guardian 14.2.91; Times
14.2.91)
