WHY THE POLICE CANNOT BE KEPT OUT OF POLITICS

Police, Oct 1982 15(2) 14,16

Discusses the Open University course called 'Issues in Crime and
Society' (D335) in which it is argued that much of the
responsibility for crime can be laid on the police, the
Conservative Party , and the press. The article particularly
rebuts the theory that the police are used as a political weapon
to suppress the working class on matters of public order, but
at the same time realises that if much crime is becoming
politicised then the police themselves are bound to become
involved in political matters.
