Southall Monitoring Group attacked
artdoc April=1992

Southall police have attacked the Southall Monitoring Group
claiming that the Sekhon killing has been `cynically used by the
Southall group to undermine the painstaking efforts of the police
to ease racial tension and to improve community relations.' The
Times (27.7.90) reports on the `disturbing conflict' between
police and SMG, quoting Chief Inspector Alan Chambers, the
borough's community liaison officer: `They are constantly
attempting to undermine the police. I don't know what they mean
to achieve'. The SMG said that the police claims were `a
predictable response'. (Times 27.7.90)
