Assessment of the judgement in a case in which the football club
disputed the police claim to payment for policing football
matches, and was subsequently sued for arrears by the police
authority. The claim of the police was upheld on the grounds that
it has no general duty to prevent a threatened breach of the
peace, as might occur at or near a football match, and was acting
on behalf of the football club in protecting the interests of
those people whom the club had itself invited to the ground. As
such the police force was entitled to payment for its services.
