`Rude' officers should leave force
artdoc April=1992

An editorial in the Police, the journal of the Police Federation,
has admitted that rudeness by police officers toward black people
is commonplace and has called on officers guilty of such conduct
to leave the force. It asks: `How many times have we all winced
to hear a colleague (never ourselves, of course) speak to a black
or Asian citizen in a condescending fashion that would just not
be used toward a white citizen? Never? We must be serving in the
wilds of Dartmoor.'
The editorial goes on to say that: `We can acknowledge that
there are some (not all that many, but some) who would do us all
a favour by finding another occupation to encumber rather than
enhance.' (Times 17.8.90)
