Hansard written answer 14.6.89 Cols 462-3

The Secretary of State for the Home Department was asked (1)
how many persons who have been prisoners and subsequently
released have been disposed as HIV positive;
(2) how many prisoners currently in Her Majesty's prisons
have been disposed as HIV positive.

Mr. Douglas Hogg: On 12 June 1989 the prison population
of England and Wales included 63 prisoners reported as having
been identified as HIV antibody positive. A total of 174 such
prisoners had been released since reporting began in March
1985.
