Sir Charles Morrison: asked the Secretary of State for the
Home Department how many police there were per 1,000 members
of the population in 1959 and 1988.

Mr Hogg, Minister of State, replied that the number of
police officer per 1,000 members of the population were as
follows: 1959: 1.73, 1988 2.46.
