Officers investigated
artdoc July=1991

Assistant Commissioner Wyn Jones has become the highest ever
officer to be investigated by Scotland Yard.
Apparently, allegations against Wyn Jones surfaced after
documents were produced during a disciplinary inquiry into
Chief Superintendent Colin McMurray, then head of Hampstead
police station, whose wife was said to have organised personal
protection for the chairman of Polly Peck International.
The precise allegations against Mr. Jones have not been
made public but Scotland Yard have made it clear that they did
not involve criminal activity. Meanwhile, Mr. Jones has issued
a writ against the Sun for allegations made about the
investigation. (Guardian 13.12.90, 14.12.90)
Meanwhile, the Police Complaints Authority have ratified
the suspension of the most senior police woman in the country.
Alison Halford, an assistant chief constable of the Merseyside
force, who made history by taking the Home Secretary and her
police authority to an industrial tribunal alleging sexual
discrimination, is accused of neglect of duty, discreditable
conduct and falsehood. Ms. Halford said she would still
continue with her industrial tribunal. (Guardian 14.12.90)
