Man wields pick-axe in Newcastle youth centre
artdoc July=1991

A white man burst into the United Black Youth Association's
offices in the Murray House, Newcastle swinging a pick-axe
handle at young teenagers and workers assembled there for a
meeting.
Youth leaders described the attack as a ploy to
intimidate the workers at the Murray House and said the man
was, `swinging the pick-axe wildly and provoking us into a
fight by hurling abuse at us.'
Since the attack there has been increasing concern among
the Youth Association's workers that youngsters will be
frightened from using the youth club, and the UBYA is asking
the City Council to conduct a full and impartial
inquiry.(Newcastle Times 22.11.90)
