Drugs operation on North Wembley estate
artdoc May=1991
Residents accused police of using `heavy handed tactics' after some 2000
officers swooped onto the Chalkhill estate, Wembley, and 40 officers
stormed a block looking for drugs. Armed police officers were on
stand-by.
Before the operation, senior officers had met residents in Brent Town
Hall to explain their actions. According to Chief Superintendent Eric
Brown: `I am sure that this operation has removed a major source of
crack for dealers in a fairly large area... We believe, as far out as
Bracknell in Berkshire and St. Albans in Hertfordshire. According to
the Mail, 21 people were arrested and some crack and cannabis seized.
