Armed police mobile patrol formed
artdoc May=1991

Scotland Yard has formed its first 24 hour armed mobile patrol to drive
around London `on constant alert to deal with the threat from
gun-carrying criminals'. Eight mobile response units are planned - one
in each police area - which would each have up to 25 officers empowered
to carry guns when on duty. According to Scotland Yard Flying Squad
Commander John O'Connor, the police are moving close to a situation
where they will have to consider arming themselves permanently. (Time
Out 24-31.10.90)
