Residents of Broadwater Farm Estate in the London Borough of
Haringey have mounted a community action campaign with the local
authority to improve conditions and services. A youth centre was
set up in the derelict shopping centre to help unemployed young
people and other community projects followed. The local authority
established a neighbourhood office and residents are involved in
discussing services through the Broadwater Farm Panel . Regular
police reports are also made to the panel. A corporate approach
to decentralisation is needed and resources should be provided.
