Considers one aspects of a major study on this issue sponsored
by the Royal Institute of Public Administration : the abrupt change
in police attitudes towards the use of tape records. Factors seem
to include growing familiarity with new technology, changes in
government and police personnel which introduced people more
favourable to tape recorders and the successful outcome of
field trials. 23 notes and references
