"In September 1931 men of the Atlantic Fleet refused to put to
sea.
Spontaneous and short-lived, the mutiny at Invergordon took the
Admiralty unawares. It need not have: for thirty years discontent
had
been simmering on the lower deck. But ratings were nor allowed
to
speak out, and Authority, more interested in hardware than human
personnel, clamped down on every avenue of complaint. Now cuts
in
already miserable pay seemed the last straw...This is the story
of
the long and not very successful struggle for better pay and
conditions up to the 1939 war." (Publishers text)
