Switzerland: new intelligence centre

On 11 January the Swiss Federal Council presented a bill to set up a new police intelligence unit to "fight" organised crime. Initially 25 police officers and computer experts will staff the unit. Its job will be to centralise intelligence on organised and 'ordinary' crime, drug trafficking and money laundering. The new unit will act as the liaison point with other European police intelligence centres. The government says that Switzerland can no longer be an "island of security for organised crime".
