Sweden: asylum-seekers seized
01 November 1993
On 24 November police raided a nunnery near Uppsala in central Sweden and arrested 40 asylum-seekers sheltering there. Twenty five adults and fifteen children from the former Yugoslavia, the Middle East and Bangladesh were taken in for questioning. Immigration Minister, Birgit Friggebo, who recently made $12 million available to track down deportation "dodgers", criticised the local police.
