The ill-feeling between the police agencies of the Spanish State and the Basque Ertzaintza regional police force has intensified after shots were exchanged between patrols from either side in Bilbao on 28 February, shortly after the explosion of a car-bomb. The incident left one Basque officer and two members of the Civil Guard with bullet wounds, one of the latter having been shot eight times, and it revived the debate about the lack of coordination among the various police forces operating in the Basque Country.
