Privatisation of prisons to go ahead

The Government has announced intentions to allow
privatisation of all new prisons.
The plan which has been put forward by Tory
backbenchers would place the management of all new prisons
and remand centres under private tender. Penal reform groups
are staunchly opposed to privatisation plans because they do
not include minimum standards for prisoners or training for
private guards. They believe that privatisation will only
worsen the present criminal justice system. (Independent
