Austria: COE criticises Austrian police for violent conduct: A report published by the anti-torture committee of the Council of Europe has condemned police violence against detainees. "Suspects" are said to have been maltreated with slaps in the face, punches and kicks. The report particularly condemned the physical abuse of youth, who reported they had been forced to give statements under duress. Police stations around the city of Linz seem particularly disposed to abuse.
