Police interviewing of juveniles is currently carried out
under the terms of the Judges Rules and Administrative
Directions to the Police, often in the presence of a social
worker. Evidence suggests that social workers are frequently
inadequately trained for this purpose and new powers to
carry out intimate body searches and take body samples
under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act are likely to
highlight this deficiency.
