Considers the problems facing anyone researching this area in
acquiring accurate information from court documents or the
observation of trials. The author's own study was based on an
unscientifically selected sample of fellow barristers but he
suggests that the results, which indicate a significant level of
police perjury, are probably fairly near the truth.
