Police need black probation officers
artdoc July=1991
A report has recently been released by the Home Office calling
for increased recruitment campaigns for black probation
officers to help bolster the number of probation officers from
ethnic minorities.
The policy review document `Race Issues in the Probation
Service' compiled by two professors at Sheffield University
found that although many of the probation offices in England
and Wales had publicly announced plans to improve minority
hiring practices, few had taken steps to implement them.
The Association of Chief Probation officers will discuss
the policy document at a conference this month. (Wolverhampton
