Police Stud, Fall 1988 11(3) pp105-115

Examines the response of the British police to recent cases of
public disorder in the context of the traditionally restrained
approach of the force and in comparison to similar contemporary
situations in other countries. Suggests that the Metropolitan
Police could do well to look at the practices of some European
countries and Japan for lessons in riot control, especially the
use of specially trained riot squads. 48 references.
