Poland: new surveillance powers:
01 July 1995
The Polish parliament, the Sejm, is considering amendments which will give the police, the State Protection Office (UOP) and the Border Guard new powers of surveillance. The new powers would allow infiltration of agents, agent-provocateurs, monitoring of the mail and the use of hidden cameras in relation to suspected serious crime, drug trafficking, arms trade, money-laundering, and nuclear material - mirroring the roles of the Europol Drugs Unit (see Statewatch vol 4 no 6).
