Magistrates courts moved to Lord Chancellor Dept
artdoc April=1992

From 1 April responsibility for magistrates' courts will be
transferred from the Home Office to the Lord Chancellor's
Department. A new junior Minister post is being created. This
follows strong representations against the recommendations of the
Le Vay report which said magistrates courts removed from the Home
Office and be set up as an executive agency (Magistrates' Courts:
report of a Scrutiny 1989 Vols I & II, HMSO, Ã8.95).
