Immigrants who, until now, have been reluctant to marry in British registry offices for fear of the heavy hand of the immigration officer, can relax a little: Home Office instructions recognise that arrests of alleged illegal immigrants during their marriages are "particularly sensitive and should normally be undertaken only where the individual's whereabouts before and after the wedding have been and will be unknown".
