Germany: Asylum law "constitutional"
01 May 1996
The Constitutional Court of Germany has ruled that the 1993 changes to the Right of Asylum are all constitutional. The changes included the list of "safe third countries" and the limitation on the appeals procedure. The Court ruled that the changes in the Asylum Law did not alter the principles laid down in the Basic Law of Germany. The ruling was passed by five votes to three; the Court President Jutta Limbach and two Constitutional Judges published a minority position.
