In February a 28-year old Algerian asylum-seeker, Omar Ben Nui, died while attempting to escape a racist gang who pursued him chanting racist slogans. Omar died after severing an artery when he jumped, terrified, through a glass door while seeking refuge in a block of flats to escape. Two teenagers from the gang that pursued him have been detained in youth custody and police are seeking two others for questioning. Several hundred people held a rally in protest at the murder.
