Brief review of the organisation and activities of the French
Gendarmerie Nationale , the senior unit of the armed forces whose
officers are both policemen and soldiers. Looks at the legal
powers of officers of both the Gendarmerie and the Police
Nationale and comments on the role of the Mobile Gendarmerie in
assisting the CRS and acting as a general military reserve.
