Summary of the 1997 annual report on the human right situation in Romania. The report criticizes the criminal procedure, extreme police violence, the conditions under which people are kept in detention, and the failure of the system to protect minors. It then focuses on the situation of national and religious minorities, the right of women and homosexuals.
