Analyses data from Metropolitan Police records to
identify 14 different kinds of incident and indicate how the
police classify behaviour according to legal criteria.
Shows that the law applicable to crowd disturbances is
often imprecise, and discusses the selection of charges.
Prosecutions for common law offences are generally avoided
with the majority of prosecutions brought under s5 of the
Public Order Act . 17 references
