Amnesty highlights treatment in detention

Amnesty International has criticised the government for its
complacency over the systematic ill-treatment of detainees in
police custody as well as permitting the rise of painful and
degrading forms of restraint such as the leg lock. The Danes are
believed to be the only police force in western Europe to use
this method of restraint. Many victims have suffered nerve damage
as well as abrasions or swelling of the wrists or hands
(Independent 21.6.94).
