Environment Secretary Patrick Jenkin said in a Commons written
reply yesterday that compensation for damage caused during the
Toxteth riots and other disturbances in Merseyside in 1981
totalled ¼4,676,041, paid by Merseyside Council with a Government
contribution of ¼2,841,190.
