Examines changes in the profile of rape offences through a
comparison of cases leading to a conviction for rape in 1973 and
1985. Looks at the ages of both offenders and victims and changes
in age profiles, the relationship between the victim and the
offender, nature and location of the offence, whether physical
violence was involved, previous convictions and sentencing.
Concludes that a far greater proportion of offenders in 1985 were
intimately known to the victim and that sentencing became severer
during the period.
