400 Kurds arrested in Cologne
artdoc November=1995

Four hundred Kurdish demonstrators were arrested in Cologne on
June 4th following protest against the closure of a Kurdish
publishing and printing company by police. The official
explanation for the police action was that the company was
distributing propaganda for the Kurdish Workers Party, PKK, which
is banned in Germany. All the demonstrators were later released,
but most are likely to be charged and brought to trial at a later
date. A criminal record is often cited as reason for deportation
proceedings against Kurdish refugees in Germany.
