Council of Europe anti-torture Committee visits Hungary to examine detention of foreign nationals

"Strasbourg, 30.10.2015 – A delegation of the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) carried out an ad hoc visit to Hungary from 21 to 27 October 2015.... The purpose of the visit was to examine the treatment and conditions of detention of foreign nationals deprived of their liberty under aliens legislation or the recently amended criminal legislation according to which, inter alia, crossing the border fence or damaging it constitute a criminal offence... A detailed report on the visit will be submitted to the Government in due course."
