The Committee on Citizens' Freedoms and Rights voted by 27 vote to 26 against on Monday. This is the first time that a European Commission nominee has been rejected outright. In the final vote in the parliament's plenary session in two weeks time it can only vote to reject all the proposed Commissioners. However, the vote sets a problem for the European Commission President as Mr Buttliglione would have to wrok with this Committee for the next five years. See: euobserver & euractiv (links)
