The European Parliament's Committee on Citizens' Freedoms and rights is to hold an "extraordinary meeting" this evening (10 March) during the plenary session in Strasbourg to consider a report on the transfer of personal data on airline passengers to the USA.

The draft report expresses concern that data could be passed on to other US databases, expresses doubt as to whether the data will be protected in an adequate way, criticises the European Commission for not submitting proposals to the parliament, "regrets that... this text lacks any legal basis but could be interpreted as an indirect invitation to national authorities to disregard Community law"
