The European Ombudsman, Mr Jacob Soderman, has published today (18.3.02) the European Code of Good Administrative Behaviour as a user-friendly brochure as a citizens' guide to their rights. Copies have been sent to all EU institutions and bodies calling on them to adopt the Code. Mr Soderman said:

"It tells European citizens what they have a right to expect from the EU administration and gives guidance to officials on how to behave when dealing with the public"

Aspects of the Code will affect the way EU institutions have to respond to requests for information.
