Snub to the European Parliament reveals more NATO demands on the EU

An invitation by the European Parliament (EP) to NATO to appear at a "hearing" in the Committee on Citizen's Freedoms and Rights on 18 September was turned down on the grounds that it would be: "premature and somewhat inappropriate". The reply to the invitation from Graham Watson, Chair of the Committee is from the Acting Director, NATO Security Office and is headed: "NATO UNCLASSIFIED": text of NATO letter (pdf format)
Instead of just turning down the EP's invitation Graham Watson is treated to a lecture on "security agreements", "legal imperatives", "security infrastructure", "inspections" and "certification process" to satisfy "NATO's security requirements" being completed before NATO will speak to the parliament. The letter also says that the European Commission "has now made representation to NATO to partake in a similar process".
