On 28 September Statewatch and TNI hosted the first webinar of a three-part series accompanying the publication of the report Deportation Union: Rights, accountability and the EU's push to increased forced removals.

This first webinar delves into the EU's Return Directive, a 2008 law governing standards and procedures for forced removals from the EU.

The webinar brought together Tineke Strik MEP, the Parliamentary Rapporteur for the proposed directive recast, with legal anthropologist Jill Alpes and Izabella Majcher, Senior Legal Officer at the European Council on Refugees and Exiles . Our panellists discussed the implementation of the current Return Directive, negotiations ongoing over its proposed recast, and human rights concerns from detention to post-return risks.
